Dean's Message
Welcome to the Spencer College of Education and Human Sciences at the University of North Alabama!
Since 1872, when UNA became the first state-supported teachers college south of the Ohio River, we have been preparing educators who make a difference. Today, that legacy has grown to include preparing professionals, leaders, practitioners, and researchers in education, health and wellness, human performance, and counseling.
At the Spencer College, we believe healthy minds, healthy bodies, and a lifelong commitment to learning can transform communities. Our faculty provide strong academic preparation along with meaningful experiences through clinical practice, internships, field placements, research, community partnerships, and hands-on learning. Our students bring dedication, resilience, and purpose as they prepare to lead and serve in their chosen fields.
Rooted in tradition and focused on the future, the Spencer College continues to strengthen educator preparation, expand opportunities in health and wellness, and support applied research that addresses real-world needs. Through Kilby Laboratory School, the Education Research and Inservice Center, the Health and Human Performance Lab, and our many school and community partnerships, we connect learning with service and scholarship with impact.
Whether you are a prospective student, current student, alum, friend, or partner, we are glad you are here. I hope our website helps you discover the many ways the Spencer College of Education and Human Sciences is preparing leaders who are ready to make a difference. Our faculty and staff are honored to help you find your place in our Pride.
Roar Lions!
