FLORENCE, AL – Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) has secured $6.6 million in federal funding the University of North Alabama to support critical campus infrastructure improvements and strengthen educational opportunities for students pursuing careers in engineering and industrial professions. The majority of the funding – $5.6 million – is dedicated to Pine Street safety enhancements, while the remaining $1 million is for the UNA Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions.

“Sen. Tuberville has long been an advocate for UNA at the federal level,” said UNA’s President Dr. Ken Kitts. “We are grateful for the continued support through these additional dollars for Pine Street safety and Engineering and Industrial Professions programs.”

The Pine Street project aims to increase pedestrian and vehicle safety, improve connectivity across campus, and support continued growth of the University. The investment in UNA’s Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions is designed to enhance educational resources, equipment, and workforce development efforts. Further, the $1 million will help ensure students receive the hands-on training and practical experience needed to fill jobs in Alabama’s growing industrial and engineering sectors.

The funding has been included in the FY27 congressionally spending requests submitted by Sen. Tuberville, who has worked with Alabama’s congressional delegation to advocate for projects that support education, infrastructure, and economic development.
