LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE PRACTICE

Use your atlas, a world map or a globe to complete the following:

  1. Which large country is located at latitude 100 south and longitude 500 west?

  2. This northern hemisphere island is covered with a very large ice cap and is centered on latitude 700 north and longitude 400 west.

  3. Sometimes described as a "mango" shaped island, this tropical country is located at approximately latitude 80 north and longitude 800 east.

  4. Provide the latitude and longitude of Florence, Alabama.

  5. Calculate the latitude and longitude of Johannesburg, South Africa.
    Note:  In calculating lat/long more accurately, a degree is broken into 60 minutes and a minute into 60 seconds.  They are represented like:   lat  460  50'  30"  north,  long 1310   45'   27"   east
